At the 2016 AGM the Mayor of Bromley, Councillor Ian Payne, said he thought the Association should have a Patron.  His thought was that appointing the office of the Mayor of Bromley to such a position would be a suitable reward to the Association for all the work it has done within the Borough since 1975.  True to his word, a certificate from the Mayor's office arrived and is now displayed in our Studio.  As a result of the Mayor's action, we can now display the Bromley Borough Crest on our headed notepaper.

The 42nd AGM was held in the Bromley Methodist Church Hall on Saturday 1st October 2016 at 2:30 pm.  The Mayor of Bromley, Councillor Ian Payne and the Mayoress, Mrs. Judith Payne were in attendance.  The format for the meeting was for the first time different than hitherto in that the official part was kept very short, the remaining time being given over to a tea party.  The new arrangement was deemed a success by Members and attendance was up.  The minutes of the previous AGM and the Annual Report were approved by Members.  The Board of Management, albeit with three vacancies, was elected unanimously for the 2016 / 2017 year.  Judy McKeown was welcomed to the Board to represent the Readers due to the retirement of Ian Carter.

Six Associate and Life Members retired and were presented with their Certificates by the Mayor.  Jean Appleton MBE retired after 32 year's service as did Kate Hetherington who had served for the same period of time.  Ian Carter had served the Association for 13 years;  Judy DeHaan for 3 years; Sheila Hogg 12 years; and Dennis Packham for 11 years.  The Chairman for the meeting, Graham Towills, wished them all well in retirement.

During the tea party, Readers Bob Edwards and Nikki Packham kept those present amused with a few anecdotes that they had collected whilst recording earlier editions of Bromley District Talking News.

Guests included representatives from the Bromley office of the Kent Association for the Blind, the Beckenham Club for the Blind, the Bromley Club for the Blind, the Bromley KAB Coffee Morning, the Macular Society and the Bromley VIPAS Group.
